ASSESSMENTS
I offer full Diagnostic Assessments for Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties,
as well as Exam Access Arrangement Assessments for UK schools and colleges.

A positive approach is at the heart of every assessment I do, with the aim of making it an informative and enjoyable experience. It is a collaborative process, providing evidence-based information that can be used to enhance the educational experience and working environment for the individual.
Prior to the assessment:
Before the assessment the person being assessed, or their carers, will
complete a background questionnaire. This gives me a history of developmental
and educational experience and will inform what tests are used.
There will be a collaborative consultation with parents, student, school, college, employee, or employer to discuss what areas impact or cause difficulties with day to day activities and what needs to be investigated. A school questionnaire will be provided and needs to be completed before the assessment. If there are any previous assessment reports, these should be shared with me ahead of time.
How long does the assessment take?
The full diagnostic assessment takes between 2½-3 hours and is usually administered over one session with as many breaks as needed. It normally takes place in the educational or work setting, or at home.
What happens during the assessment?
The assessment consists of a range of psychometric tests to assess cognitive ability, attainment in spelling, writing and reading, working memory and speed of processing and phonological skills, plus other areas as necessary.
What are the outcomes of the assessment?
Following the assessment, I compile a full report of approximately 20 pages within 2-3 weeks. The report provides standardised scoring, interpretation of the results, summary of the test scores, discussion of areas of strengths and challenges, and recommended strategies to address the areas of need in the educational, workplace and home setting.
The format of my reports is written in line with current SASC guidelines, making it suitable for use in school, college, university and work, as well as if applying for Disabled Students Allowance. The report does not have an end date and can be used in a range of settings.
Exam access arrangements:
These assessments vary in terms of time taken and tests administered. Given the current regulations set by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), it is crucial to work with the school and to gain their consent, prior to the assessment being conducted. Suggestions for Exam Access Arrangements in examinations will be included if appropriate, but the final decision sits with the educational institution, as they need to provide further evidence and a history of need.

Support following the assessment:
On receipt of the report an additional feedback conversation can be given over the phone, if required.
Other types of assessments are available and can be discussed on request.
Please get in touch to discuss assessment options, cost and availability.
